Rhonda Pasek and James Acord, who were allegedly overdosed with heroin, invaded Facebook after their disturbing photos went viral.
The 50-year-old woman and 47-year-old man, who appeared unconscious in the images, caught the attention of the internet users because of the young boy who was riding at the backseat while they were in such situation.
The four-year-old boy, who was described as “helpless” while the two adults were reportedly overdosing themselves with the illegal drug, was identified as the son of Palek.
The said photos emanated from the Facebook page of the City of East Liverpool, Ohio with the aim of warning everyone on the adverse effects of heroin, US Weekly reported.
“We feel it necessary to show the other side of this horrible drug. We feel we need to be a voice for the child caught up in this horrible mess,” the social media post showing Rhonda Pasek and James Acord read. “This child can’t speak for himself but we are hopeful his story can convince other users to think twice about injecting this poison while having a child in their custody.”
It was further pointed out that the warning was necessary despite the fact that the graphic shots might have “offended” some.
“The poison known as heroin has taken a strong grip on many communities not just ours, the difference is we are willing to fight this problem until it’s gone and if that means we offend a few people along the way we are prepared to deal with that,” the post continued.
Based on the police report, the arrest was made after officer Kevin Thompson observed that the car driven by the male suspect was “weaving back and forth.” Thus, when the car stopped at the back of a school, he immediately approached it and even grabbed the key from it when James Acord tried to put the car to “drive” again.
Following their arrest on St. Clair Avenue at 3:11 p.m. on Wednesday, the male suspect is now facing charges of driving under the influence and endangering children which he reportedly “pleaded no contest,” according to Morning Journal.
With that, he was sentenced to 180 days in jail for each of the charges and was asked to pay a fine of $475.
Meanwhile, the female suspect is charged for endangering children and disorderly conduct and seat belt (passenger) violation. However, she reportedly pleaded not guilty on Thursday.
Amid this report, it was learned that this was not the first time they were arrested.
Back in October 2013, Weirton Daily Times reported that James Acord was arrested for driving under the influence, while Herald Star Online shared that Rhonda Pasek was apprehended for intoxication in 2008.
