On Wednesday, a rebellious Russian robot, Promobot, was arrested for participating in a rally.
The mutinous robot was participating in the rally to support Russian Parliament candidate Valery Kalachev in Moscow.
According to Inverse, Promobot became a sensation on the Internet. It first made headlines after it escaped the lab and stumbled in front of incoming traffic twice. The publication noted that currently, the radical robot is a political stumping bot.
The robot was arrested after someone called the police. It was recording the voters’ opinions on multiple topics. This was done for further evaluation and analysis by the candidate’s team, according to a company spokesperson’s email. The robot did not put up much of a struggle when it was placed under arrest.
“Police asked to remove the robot away from the crowded area, and even tried to handcuff him,” the Promobot spokesperson said.
“According to eyewitnesses, the robot did not put up any resistance.”
A robot fighting the Russian police could be a sensational topic for the Internet. However, the last thing the company required was a video of robots struggling with Russian police. Earlier, the rebellious robot caused chaos on the streets. It went halfway across the road before its batteries went dry, thus it got stranded in the middle of the carriageway.
Due to the crisis, the mutinous robot was left on the road outside the research lab for more than an hour. The vehicles tried to drive their way around the robot, according to SitiBe.
According to the official website of the rebellious robot, Promobot is a completely self-contained “live” robot created to work in regions with high concentrations of people. The robot would act as aids to people, helping them with navigation.
It can answer any question, translate promotional materials, and remember everyone it communicates with. The big question now is whether these robots would act as the new activists of modern society.
