Norwegian royals Princess Martha Louise and her husband Ari Behn are undergoing a “painful” divorce. The 44-year-old princess announced split from her husband of 14 years.
This comes close on the heels of the shocking split of Princess Beatrice from her boyfriend of 10 years Dave Clark.
The princess opened up about the impending divorce in a candid statement. She said “there is nothing more we can do.”
“Life does not always go smoothly. Both Ari and I have experienced this…These days we were mainly apart,” Martha Louise’s statement reads.
She added that they were ending their marriage but were remaining together in parenthood. Martha Louise said that she and Ari tried everything, but could not reach where they were before, and hence they could not continue together.
The Norwegian royals, through their three kids hoped to remain friends. But, they were guilty for not being able to create the safe harbor for their children deserve.
The princess hoped that she and her husband both “get peace in this sensitive process.” She added that their daughters would need time to “digest, grieve and find new footing – each one separately.”
Princess Martha Louise and Ari Behn married in a lavish ceremony in Trondheim, Norway in May 2002.
Meanwhile King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway said in a statement that they wanted to remain on good terms with Ari, People reports. The royal couple added that when a marriage dissolved, may people are affected.
They said that it was also “painful and sad” for them to be witness to the split. Harald and Sonja were grateful to Ari for the experiences they shared with him as a family, and were happy with him.
The princess will reside in Lommedalen and also retains the Bloksbjerg family estate in Hankø as both are her personal properties.
