Possible Listeria Contamination Leads To Frozen Corn Recall Of Bonduelle; What Products Are Affected

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently announced that Bonduelle USA Inc. will be recalling several cases of its frozen corn products as it is believed to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently announced that Bonduelle USA Inc. will be recalling several cases of its frozen corn products as it is believed to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. As much as 9,335 cases of the company’s corn products are subjected to the recent recall.

The company has said that so far, it has not received any complaints from customers with regard to the affected products. Moreover, there have been no illnesses reported as a result of the company’s recalled products so far.

Contamination has been suspected among Bonduelle’s frozen corn products when a testing done on a retail product by the State of Tennessee revealed that the said product is positive for Listeria monocytogenes. Since then, Bonduelle has stopped the distribution of the tested product. Moreover, the company has been working with the FDA to find out the cause of the contamination.

Bonduelle’s frozen cut corn comes in poly bags and has been distributed to several stores in New York, New Jersey, Vermont, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Louisiana, Florida and Mississippi. These corn products are marketed under several brands including WYLWOOD Super Sweet Whole Kernel Corn, MARKET BASKET Cut Corn, Bountiful Harvest WHOLE KERNEL CUT CORN and WEST CREEK FROZEN VEGETABLES Cut Corn.

To check if your corn products are part of the recall, just check the package’s label and codes (Best By dates). The following labels and codes are subject to recall:

Listeria monocytogenes is a harmful organism that can lead to serious and fatal infections, especially among children and the elderly. Short term symptoms of Listeria infections include severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, high fever and diarrhea. Moreover, Listeria infection can also cause pregnant women to miscarry or have a stillbirth.

The last major Listeria outbreak came from Blue Bell Creameries‘ ice cream products. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it has led to three deaths in Kansas.
