Polaroid has unveiled a new action video camera which the company has simply named the Polaroid Cube. The soon-to-be GoPro competitor is a 35mm square body camera with the company’s signature Polaroid Color Spectrum decorated around it.
“The Polaroid Cube represents a fresh, unique approach to the action camera category, and is emblematic of everything the Polaroid brand represents,” said Scott W. Hardy, President and CEO of Polaroid. “Polaroid is known around the world for helping people capture and share life’s most memorable moments instantly and easily, the Polaroid Cube was designed to allow virtually anyone to do exactly that. Whether it’s mounted to the
handlebars of your child’s bicycle to capture their expression during that first ride without training wheels or to the nose of your surfboard while you brave Oahu’s North Shore, the Polaroid Cube does it all.”
The Polaroid Cube is capable of capturing video in high-definition 1920 x 1080 or 1280 x 720 and still images at 6-megapixels. The Cube is equipped with a 124-degree wide-angle lens, a high capacity battery that gives the Polaroid Cube a battery life of up to 90 minutes of recording. The camera is also water resistant and features a simple, one-button operation design, a microphone, an LED light, and support for up to a 32GB microSD card.
Along with the Polaroid Cube, the company also unveiled and will be releasing a slew of accessories for the new camera including a wearable pendant, a helmet mount, a monkey shaped mount, a waterproof case, a suction cup mount, a bike mount, a tripod mount, and a strap mount.
The Polaroid Cube will be available this fall at select retailers for an MSRP (manufacturer suggested retail price) of $99.99. Additionally, the Polaroid Cube’s accessories will be sold at prices ranging from $9.99 to $39.99 and will be available as well when the camera officially launches this fall.
