The Philadelphia 76ers have a bright future ahead of them after acquiring rookie sensation Ben Simmons in the 2016 NBA Draft. But as it stands, the 76ers are still two to three key players away from becoming a perennial contender at least in the Eastern Conference.
The 76ers want to speed up their rebuilding, which means they could enter in trades in the coming weeks. In fact, they are now being tipped as one of Sacramento Kings’ potential trade partners. ESPN insider Marc Stein revealed the Kings are shopping Rudy Gay, Ben McLemore and Kosta Koufos.
According to The Sixer Sense, Philadelphia could eventually pull the trigger on trade involving young frontcourt players Jahlil Okafor and Nerlens Noel. The Kings could become the other party in the deal, especially if they trade temperamental superstar DeMarcus Cousins this summer.
Rudy Gay to Philadelphia 76ers
The 76ers are rebuilding but that does not mean they are not open to acquiring a 10-year veteran. The 29-year-old has proven time and time again that he can contribute if given enough playing minutes.
Gay averaged 17.2 points and 6.5 rebounds in 34.0 minutes per game last season. A move to the 76ers could work well for his career, as he will be getting more shots and bigger responsibilities in a young team like Philadelphia. The veteran forward could also help Simmons, Robert Covington and Jerami Grant develop in the coming years.
Ben McLemore to Philadelphia 76ers
McLemore was a highly-touted prospect before the 2013 NBA Draft but has yet to reach expectations after three season in the NBA. The 23-year-old averaged just 7.8 points in 21.2 minutes last season. A change of scenery could lead to his breakout season, especially in a team like the 76ers where he could get bigger load on his shoulders.
Jahlil Okafor, Nerlens Noel Taking DeMarcus Cousins’ Spot
The Kings are expected to pursue a trade for Okafor or Noel if they eventually decide to part ways with mercurial center Cousins. Both Okafor and Noel are reportedly on the trading block, while Cousins is also being mentioned in numerous trade rumors.
The 76ers are expected to move either Okafor or Noel to give way to Joel Embiid, who is set to begin his NBA career next season. A deal involving Gay and McLemore could be enough to nab either Okafor or Noel, as it would be a win-win deal for the Kings and 76ers.
