It’s all systems go for Outlander season 3, as the British-American drama has added two talented actors to its cast.
This is certainly good news for fans of the hit historical time-travel travel series which is scheduled to be aired sometime in 2017.
The young Ian Murray will be portrayed by John Bell of the “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” while Claire Randal’s (Caitriona Balfe) close friend and medical colleague Wil Johnson will be played by Joe Abernathy “Waking the Dead.”
Bell’s Ian character, who has been described as a tall, gangly Scottish kid with a heart of gold, is expected to make his mark on Outlander season 3, according to Entertainment Weekly.
With a stubborn streak and a penchant for getting himself into trouble, he has been compared to an adventurous Jamie Frasier.
Abernathy’s Will role, on the other hand, is expected to create a strong bond with Claire, being a fellow doctor in training who is both intelligent and charismatic.
Johnson, 50, is a seasoned English TV actor who is credited for his recurring roles on British dramas such as the Waterloo Road, Holby City, and Cracker.
For his part, the 19-year-old Bell has been a professional actor since he was ten, after he auditioned and won a small part in “Doctor Who” by joining a competition on BBC’s Blue Peter.
In the meantime, the Outlander season 3 cast Caitriona Balfe and Tobias Menzies seem to hold a reunion as they shot on location in Glasgow, Germany, reported the Daily Record.
The scenes featuring Balfe and Menzies were filmed in Glasgow’s West End which also double up as 1940s Boston on the critically-acclaimed drama.
Everything seemed to be relaxed on the set of Outlander season 3 as Balfe laughed with another young actress as they were seen carrying logs from a vintage car.
