The Oscars 2016 nominations have caused a stir in the entertainment industry when a Black-American zero turnout was yielded for acting categories this year. Despite the controversy, Leonardo DiCaprio, who is clearly not a black American, was labeled by Jamie Foxx as one of them. How so?
Jamie Foxx, an Academy Award winner, addressed the issue with regards to the Oscars 2016 turnouts. Despite the actor/singer being a member of the African-American community, the group who had problems with the Oscars 2016 nominations turnouts declared this week that Best Actor this year, Leonardo DiCaprio, represented black Americans.
According to TMZ, Foxx was asked about what he thought of Chris Rock’s performance as host of the 88th Academy Awards. He said that the comedian delivered his gig outstandingly. Afterwards, he declared that DiCaprio was the next best thing to having a black brother win an award on the event.
While he was walking his way through LAX, Foxx said DiCaprio is as close as being a “black dude” and said, sarcastically, “Well, in ‘Titanic,’ he drowned. Black dudes don’t know how to swim in the ocean.” He further said that if DiCaprio was to play a black dude on screen, he would be better suited.
Initially, Foxx responded to the Oscars 2016 issue via a TMZ interview and said that people should not take nominations seriously and should laugh more often. In fact, he said during the American Black Film Festival awards that instead of complaining, his comrades should just perform better.
In other news, Hip Hollywood reports that Foxx may have married Katie Holmes in secret. Although there was no confirmation regarding the issue, Foxx was seen wearing a gold band on his wedding finger. Earlier this month, Holmes was also spotted wearing a ring on her finger as she guested for “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
The Oscars 2016 nominations may have received negative feedback from black Americans, but for Jamie Foxx, he made a laugh about it… even calling Leonardo DiCaprio an “honorary brother.”
