“Orange Is The New Black” cast member Samira Wiley is now engaged to the Netflix writer Lauren Morelli! Get to know the fiancé of the actress here!
The 29-year-old actress announced her engagement with Lauren Morelli on her Instagram account last Tuesday with a photo of them while showing off her ring.
She captioned her photo with, “Yes.”
Samira Wiley and Lauren Morelli met at the set of “Orange is the New Black” and they dated for two years before engagement, TV Guide said in a report.
Before dating the actress, Lauren Morelli was married to Steve Basilone for two years. They divorced in 2014, following reports that she started dating the “Orange is the New Black” actress, an E! News article said.
The writer came out as gay in May 2014 in an essay she had written for Identities.Mic.
She said she realized that she was gay when she was writing about the “Orange Is the New Black” characters Piper Chapman and Alex Vause. Lauren Morelli said she felt she had the need to keep her secret to her husband.
“I loved writing it, loved watching a tenderness emerge in their relationship where passion always seemed to be the ruling principle, but by that time, I was so deep in my own self-doubt that I constantly felt like a fraud,” she said. “I was sure it was bleeding into my writing. How could it not? I was married to a man, but I wasn’t straight.”
Meanwhile, Samira Wiley’s character Poussey had bid goodbye to the series in the season 4 finale.
In separate interviews with Samira Wiley and Lauren Morelli, the two talked about Poussey’s death in “Orange Is The New Black” season 4.
For Samira Wiley, though she has to endure hiding the fact that her character will be off for season 4 to her co-stars, she said the script came out very beautifully.
On the other hand, Lauren Morelli said Samira Wiley’s trust on her in writing the script was beyond honored.
“And I felt privileged that I would then get to be on set and be there for the entire cast as we went through this difficult process,” she said.
