Miguel, a man claiming to be Omar Mateen’s lover, has declared that Mateen committed the shooting out of revenge after discovering one of his partners was HIV positive.
Dubbed as America’s worst mass shooting, the 29-year-old shot 49 people at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Florida, on June 12, said Telegraph.
While talking to a Spanish-language television network, the man claimed that he and Mateen were “friends with benefits.” The man was identified only by the name Miguel.
After meeting on a gay dating website, the two started their relationship, claimed Miguel. According to Miguel, the relationship lasted two months until December.
Miguel also noted that during December, the two had met between 15 and 20 times at a hotel in Orlando.
The FBI said that investigators have spoken with Miguel. However, a law enforcement official would neither confirm nor deny this.
CBS News senior investigative producer Pat Milton was informed by the official that Omar Mateen was a regular user of online dating sites. The official also said that while visiting these sites, the mass murderer would seek relationships with both men and women.
It had been reported that men and women have come up to the FBI claiming they have had relationships with the mass murderer. According to the law enforcement official, all of those claims are being investigated.
Miguel denied claims of terrorism. He strictly believed the shooter had a relationship with a Puerto Rican man whom he later learned was HIV positive.
“He hate gay Puerto Ricans for all the stuff he did to him,” Miguel said. “I believe this crazy horrible thing he did was for revenge.”
It could be logically presumed that there is a high chance Omar Mateen was HIV positive.
