Oklahoma police officers allowed a captured suspect to propose to his partner. The police were surprised with the suspect’s request and allowed their marriage to push through before he was detained.
CNN reported that Brandon Thompson, 35, had requested to propose to his girlfriend, Leandria Keith. “I didn’t want to part ways with her not showing exactly how I feel for her, I want her to be my wife for the rest of my life,” said Thompson to the police. Keith accepted the proposal and the police assisted him to place the engagement ring on his fiancée.
The police were even surprised that he asked to propose before they took him to jail. “It took us by surprise that he asked if he could do it,” said Officer and Muskogee Police Spokeman Lincoln Anderson.
The officer hopes that this event will help show that police officers are also human and serve people in its city. “We all want to see someone get their life on track, Hopefully it will help him make the choices it will take to support his future wife and his kids. And by letting him take a moment before going to jail to do what he did, then we did our jobs,” said Anderson.
Thompson was captured in his mother’s home as he celebrated his birthday and Independence Day with his mother and girlfriend. His mother, Judy Peal, said that her son was tired of running away from the cops and wants to go home. Thompson’s six felony raps mostly consist of failure to show up in court or failure to pay. Once he’s out of jail, Thompson promises to fix his life and get a job.
After his capture, Keith used their savings to pay for Thompson’s bail. However, Thompson still has to face his arraignment appearance on July 17.
