NYPD News: Handcuffed Shoplifting Suspect Escapes From Police Custody

A handcuffed shoplifting suspect escaped police custody on Thursday.

A handcuffed shoplifting suspect escaped police custody on Thursday.

An NYPD dragnet ensued after the suspect jumped out of a marked police cruiser in Tribeca and escaped into a subway tunnel. It is the seventh time sine June that a prisoner has escaped from police custody.

The escape occurred at about 7:45 p.m. when the suspect was being transported to the 1st Precinct’s stationhouse after he was caught shoplifting jeans from a GAP store on Broadway near Maiden Lane. The incident occurred at the intersection of West Broadway and Franklin St., according to NY Daily News.

Subway service was suspended on the 2 and 3 lines from 14th St. in Manhattan to Nevins St. in Brooklyn.
