One of the first responders to Justice Antonin Scalia’s death has ruled out that he was found with a pillow over his face.
Presidio County Sheriff Danny Dominguez, speaking with Daily Mail, said that the pillow was found over, not on, Scalia’s face, adding that there was nothing “fishy” about the death.
Nevertheless, conspiracy theories surrounding the death of the justice, who was found at a luxury hunting ranch in West Texas, have sparked much discussion about the incident. In an appearance on Michael Savage’s radio show “The Savage Nation,” Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump spoke about a report about Scalia’s body found at the scene, saying, “They say they found a pillow on his face, which is a pretty unusual place to find a pillow.”
John Poindexter, owner of the ranch, said he and the justice’s friend tried calling Scalia at 8:30 a.m. on that day. They headed out afterwards and returned at 11 a.m., but the justice could still not be reached. Subsequently, Poindexter entered the El Presidente suite and found Scalia’s dead body on the bed. Poindexter said that the pillow was over Scalia’s head, as reported by San Antonio Express. He added, “We discovered the judge in bed, a pillow over his head. His bedclothes were unwrinkled.”
Speaking with CNN, Poindexter said, “I think enough disclosures were made and what I said precisely was accurate. He had a pillow over his head, not over his face as some have been saying. The pillow was against the headboard and over his head when he was discovered. He looked like someone who had had a restful night’s sleep. There was no evidence of anything else.”
However, several conspiracy theories regarding the justice’s death are making the rounds. Infowars’ Alex Jones, in an “emergency transmission” on Facebook, said, “The question is was Anthony (sic) Scalia murdered?” Harddawn.com called Leonard Nimoy “the wild card in question,” saying that the Illuminati could be responsible for Scalia’s death. Another theory claims that Scalia’s death could have been caused by the “heart attack gun,” which is a secret CIA weapon.
Despite the clarification and the conspiracy theories, for Sheriff Dominguez the political reaction to Scalia’s death has been “upsetting.” He said, “My issue is why are they [Washington] turning his death into such a big political deal already? It shows a huge lack of respect. Everyone, even our President, is getting involved and it’s all about them and how it can be used for their benefit.” He then added, “They hadn’t even removed the body when all of this started up. They should have at least let the funeral pass first. It’s really upsetting that these are the kind of leaders we have and that it goes right to the very top. Show the family some respect.”
