Nikon Unveils New D810 DSLR Camera

Nikon Unveils New D810 DSLR CameraNikon has officially unveiled its latest midrange FX-format professional DSLR – the D810. The D810 is the successor of Nikon’s D800 DSLR which was heralded as one of the best pro DSLRs in the market and with the D810 Nikon is bringing in a slew of new features for both stills and video.

The Nikon D810 features a new 36.3-megapixel full frame FX-format CMOS sensor without an OLPF (optical low pass filter) and combined with Nikon’s EXPEED 4 image processor. This gives the D810 a wide ISO range of 64 to 12,800 that is expandable from 32 (Lo-1) to 51,200 (Hi-2). The D810 also features a Multi-Cam 3500-FX AF sensor module, 15 cross-type AF sensors, 5fps burst shooting at full and 5:4 resolutions, 6 fps burst shooting in DX or 1.2x modes, and 7 fps in DX mode.

With the D810, Nikon is also introducing a slew of production-quality video features including Full HD 1920 x 1080 capture at 60, 30, or 24fps. The D810 also features versatile FX and DX crop modes, a Flat Picture Control profile, an HDMI output for uncompressed external recording, in-camera time-lapse and interval timers, built-in audio controls, an expanded ISO range for video, a zebra stripes feature, highlighted weighted metering, full manual control, and full time AF (auto-focus).

“Once a user experiences the intense level of fine detail they are able to render using the immersive resolution of theD810, it will be hard to imagine a project without it,” said Masahiro Horie, Director of Marketing and Planning, Nikon Inc. “When coupled with the amazing imaging capabilities of NIKKOR optics, the D810 becomes a powerful storytelling tool to create images and broadcast-quality video with unprecedented detail, dynamic range and sharpness.”

The Nikon D810 will be available sometime in late July at an SRP of $3,299.95 for the body only. Nikon also announced that it will be offering two kits – a Filmmaker’s Kit and a Animator’s Kit – specifically designed for those planning to use the D810 to shoot video or and/or create films.
