The Nike Kyrie 2 is not done yet. Arguably the most versatile hoop shoes in recent memory, it will be released this week in a cream colorway.
Officially called the Kyrie 2 “What The,” the upcoming model is peculiar as it is immaculate. Previous entries in Nike’s popular “What The” line came with over-the-top embellishments like multi-colored uppers or random graffiti prints. Its latest installment is the exact opposite.
The sportswear giant decided to switch things up with the Kyrie 2 “What The.” The sneakers feature a milky white upper, off-white midsole and ivory outsole. Only the single gold eyelet breaks the monotonous color scheme, Footwear News reported.
Much of the psychedelic patterns synonymous to the “What The” line can be found on the inner walls and insole of the sneakers. The color collage on the left shoe is completely different from that of the right shoe.
Complexity in Simplicity
“When we think of the ‘What The’ theme, we all have a certain look in mind,” said sneaker enthusiast Jacques Slade. “Instead of letting the colors dictate the ‘What The’ theme [on the Kyrie 2], it seems to be more about the materials and patterns that are actually running the show.”
The upper material on the Kyrie 2 is composed of hyperfuse in the forefoot and midfoot areas, while composite mesh adorns the heel and ankle collar. A unique strap design provides extra heel stability and lockdown fit.
The main selling point of the Kyrie 2 is its topnotch traction. Its aggressive herringbone pattern extends to the sidewalls of each shoe to ensure maximum multi-directional coverage. This setup is designed for shifty guards who can handle the ball like Kyrie Irving.
Lightweight Cushioning Setup
In the cushioning department, there’s a Nike Zoom Air unit in the heel for moderate impact protection. The toes and balls of the feet are protected by a lightweight Phylon midsole, The Sole Brothers pointed out.
The Kyrie 2 “What The” can be purchased on Nike.com starting December 12. The silky smooth silhouette will set hypebeasts back $120.
