Hey there, 90’s kids. Your childhood favorites are back and they’re up to join a reunion feature! Who can forget the Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy, and Doug? But even if you did, they’re set to make you remember through a film. These favorite Nickelodeon characters from the 90’s and early 2000’s will reunite in a film called “NickToons.”
Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures chose Jared Hess and his wife Jarusha Hess to collaborate and spearhead the “NickToons” flick. The director, known for his movies “Nacho Libre” and “Napoleon Dynamite,” will write the screenplay with well-known producer Mary Parent.
According to Vulture, “NickToons” was inspired by the film “Who Framed Roger Rabit?“, which is a cartoon-star-studded movie. Though there are no official confirmation on which characters are included in the film, we can always hope that those from the beloved “Rugrats,” “Rocko’s Modern Life,” “Aaahh! Real Monsters!,” “The Wild Thornberrys,” “Ren & Stimpy,” “CatDog,” “Rocket Power” and “The Angry Beavers” get chosen out of the treasure chest.
According to a report made by Deadline, this idea came from Ali Mendes, Mary Parent’s staff at Disruption Entertainment. Mendes shares this dream of putting these characters back to life for all the other 90’s kids out there. These children, who by now are in their 20’s, may already have their own families. And the thought of watching with your own children a film with the characters you once loved is more than epic.
Last year, Nickelodeon also confirmed that they will be reviving “Hey Arnold!” and will base an entire film from it. Consequence of Sound shared that this revival is a part of Nickelodeon’s “wringing new value” out of their old and pioneer brainchild. That being said, “NickToons” will be a huge hit.
Well, there’s still so much details to wait for, like which real-life actors are joining. But it’s never early to rejoice and get excited. We know you are!
