Tom Brady is set to return for the New England Patriots against the Cleveland Browns and he may want to be careful and avoid injury. There will be no Jimmy Garoppolo backing him up, same with Jacoby Brissett who may have just seen his season come to an end.
The rookie quarterback underwent surgery Friday and will likely miss time, ESPN reported. The word out is that Jacoby Brissett could still return but looking at the recovery period, he could be back to where he was at the start of the season – third string.
It all depends on how Jimmy Garoppolo’s injury pans out though he seems to be a better candidate to return to back up Brady. That said, would it be safe to say that Brissett may be sitting out the rest of the season?
Garoppolo, Brissett Done With Their Jobs?
When the season started, the Patriots pinned their hopes on Garoppolo and then Brissett. The obvious plan was to hold the fort for New England until the four-game “Deflategate” suspension lapsed.
That said, the job of the two may have been over and done with as they may eventually find themselves jockeying for the same backup position that was originally assigned to Garoppolo. With those chances, it may be best for Brissett to rest his thumb to full health unless Garoppolo’s shoulder continues to be an issue.
Right now, Brady needs to make sure he doesn’t get bitten by the injury bug with his backups indisposed. With Brady likely to get a rude welcome from the Browns, the last thing the Patriots need is another injured quarterback to attend to. At 36, Brady suffering from injury could take more time to heal.
The Patriots are heavy favorites against the Browns, probably even better if Brady does not show any signs of rust. Seeing that this will be his first game of the season, all eyes will be on the veteran quarterback this Sunday in Cleveland, Ohio, CBS reported.
