The Carolina Panthers are hardly making an impression these days in the NFL, a team that is close watch following their breakthrough last season. Ron Rivera is under a lot of pressure to duplicate their run at Super Bowl 50.
The Panthers are currently 1-3 and there is something visibly wrong for Ron Rivera and his charges. Cam Newton has been hardly the same star that came out last season and things got worse when he took a big hit leading to a concussion protocol.
The latest word on Newton is that the 27-year-old Panthers quarterback is in dire straits though a return has not been totally ruled out, NFL.com reported. But even if he does return, his full state of health is direly in question. He has not practiced since that loss to the Atlanta Falcons last weekend.

Playoff Hopes Fading?
Following that loss to the Falcons, Ron Rivera has been left to ponder on what ails the team. Their passing defense has been questionable, perhaps only the tip of the iceberg on the Panthers’ woes.
Thankfully Ron Rivera and his charges are set to face a manageable foe in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this coming Monday. Newton is questionable but the Panthers are favored to get through it even without their star quarterback.
Then again, this is not the time for Ron Rivera to take it easy. In the NFL, anything can happen and surprises are not discounted even from the Buccaneers who are also toting a 1-3 record.
With Newton questionable, Ron Rivera may have to rely on backup quarterback Derek Anderson to pick up the slack. Thus far, Anderson has completed 49 of 74 passes for 507 yards and has a good batting average against the Bucs dating back to 2014, UPI reported.
The odds favor the Panthers heavily but another loss not only dampens their playoff hopes but perhaps the future of Ron Rivera at the helm as well.
