Neymar playing against Paris Saint-Germain has sealed Barcelona’s place in the Champions League semifinal at Nou Camp on Tuesday. The Catalans extended their 3-1 lead from the first leg to a thumping 5-1 aggregate win.
The Brazilian hit-man drew first blood in Paris in the first leg and netted twice in the first session on Tuesday to secure Barca’s seventh semifinal berth in eight years.
Ace Spanish midfielder Andres Iniesta created the first goal move. Neymar dribbled past the PSG custodian and slotted home in the 14th minute. He doubled his tally in the 34th minute.
“In my first my first goal Iniesta did everything,” Neymar told Television Espanola after notching up five goals in the last four games.
“I am very happy with the season I am having and we need to continue like this to achieve our objectives. We need to keep going and get to the final.”
The Spanish giant will now take their place alongside Bayern Munich in Friday’s draw for the last four, the ties to be played next month.
Barca coach Luis Enrique was ecstatic about his players’ attitude despite having a favorable lead after the first leg.
“We started the game very well. The players understood clearly what the game needed and played with an intensity, despite having the result in our favour, that was definitive,” he said.
For PSG, Zlatan Ibrahimovic staged an underwhelming return from suspension, though he netted once in the first half, but was disallowed due to offside justifiably.
Laurent Blanc said, “Everyone expected a better match from us, but they didn’t allow us to play well.
“The individual quality and collective quality of this team prevents you from playing at your best offensively and defensively.”
