New Dinosaur Species Could Curse To Paleontologist, Facts About Gualicho, The Two-fingered Dinosaur

A group of scientists has unearthed a unique species of carnivorous dinosaur with two fingers. But the newly discovered species has more than the peculiar upper limbs, as reports say it also comes with a curse.

The expedition, which was led by Pete Makovicky, a paleontologist from the Field Museum in Chicago, led to the discovery of a newly-discovered species of meat-eating dinosaur. Just like the popular dinosaur T. Rex and Velociraptor, the Gualicho shinyae has forelimbs scientists describe as absurdly tiny.

The study was published in the science journal PLOS One. It described the fossil unearthed by the scientists. But it was not an easy task for paleontologists who initiated the expedition.

According to a report from the 9 News, aside from the peculiar features of the newly-found species of dinosaur, scientists were also greeted by a curse. For scientists, it appeared that the dinosaur doesn’t want to be found, and anyone who discovers its remains befalls to a curse in a remote area in Argentina where the fossils were found.

Sebastián Apesteguía from the Azara Foundation in Buenos Aires who co-authored the study said that the recently discovered dinosaur was by far the most difficult to find. It’s the third occasion where tiny forelimbs were found on a dinosaur, after Velociraptor and T. Rex.

It took years before the team was able to secure permits from the government before they were allowed to begin the expedition. This, according to the researchers, adds to the difficulty experienced in studying the species.

While scientists behind the project admitted it was a long journey, it was still a rewarding experience, since they were able to unearth a unique and interesting species of dinosaur.
