Amazon’s new tablets – Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10 – are not here to compete with high-end tablets. They are here to offer entertainment, and they are doing their job well.
Amazon has designed new Fire HD tablets with a clear goal in mind. These tablets were not developed to beat the competition. They have come to the market with their own agenda. Amazon Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10 are positioned as budget tablets that can be used for entertainment purposes like watching videos, reading e-books and listening to music.
As the prices are low, the company has not upgraded the hardware much. Where Amazon Fire HD 8 costs you $150 for a device with 8GB of storage, Amazon Fire HD 10 costs you $230. Not even the specifications have been changed – the new fire HD tablets still come with quad-core 1.5 GHz processors, 1280 x 800 resolution and 1GB of RAM. These tablets are not the slimmest tablets available but are the ones that belong to the category of slim. These tablets are lightweight and extremely convenient to carry.
As mentioned earlier, Amazon’s new Fire HD tablets are budget tablets, hence we cannot expect them to offer us what tablets like Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 offer. Running on Amazon’s Fire OS 5.0, it works slower compared to other tablets. Opening apps or navigation may take a few seconds. The resolution is quite low given the fact that these are entertainment-friendly gadgets. Videos and games give you the best experience only when the resolution is high and the display is crisp. You have no other option but to compromise on the display quality a bit if your budget is low.
On Deck and Word Runner are two new features introduced on Amazon Fire HD tablets. Word Runner is a feature similar to predictive text where words flash onscreen so that the reader can zip through e-books at a faster rate.
On Deck is another attractive feature. Based on your watch history, this feature allows your device to download shows automatically.
To be honest, there is nothing attractive about these tablets, but yes, they do not come with fake promises. They are meant to be budget devices that offer you pure entertainment. And they are doing it in the best way possible.
