NBA Trade Rumors: Cavs Keen On Markieff Morris

NBA Trade Rumors: Markieef Morris, the embattled Phoenix Suns forward, could be on his way to Cleveland Cavaliers, according to an ESPN report.

NBA Trade Rumors: Markieeff Morris, the embattled Phoenix Suns forward, has been on the trading block for the past two months. According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the Cleveland Cavaliers have emerged as a favorable destination for the fifth year power forward.

Morris demanded a trade after his twin brother, Marcus, was dealt to Detroit Pistons during the off-season. There were rumors that the Pistons were keen on reuniting the twins. However, the Pistons haven’t shown any interest since their front court, led by Andre Drummond, Ersan Ilyasova and Marcus Morris, is already set.

NBA Trade Rumors: The Cavs could be able to acquire Morris without giving up any assets. Remember, they still have the biggest Traded Player Exception (TPE) in the NBA. They off-loaded the contracts of veterans Brendan Haywood ($10,522,500) and Mike Miller ($2,854,940) during the off-season. Also, the Cavaliers are willing to give up Anderson Varejao as a trade bait.

With the Warriors-Cavs finals rematch almost imminent, Morris would be the ideal player to pair against Draymond Green since he’s a mobile stretch four and can cover Green better than Tristan Thompson, Kevin Love or Timofey Mozgov. According to Windhorst, LeBron James could keep Morris in check and help him just the way he helped JR Smith and Iman Shumpert last season. Remember, Smith and Shumpert were traded by Knicks for practically nothing. The Morris trade could go down in a similar fashion.

Since Morris is on a reasonable contract that is valid until the next off-season, the Cavaliers have nothing to lose by gambling on the trouble forward. Also, since the Cavs began to start Tristan Thompson at Center, they are strapped for choices at the Power Forward position.

Markieff Morris is averaging 10.5 points and 4.7 rebounds this season. He has barely averaged 23 mpg per night, compared to last year when he averaged a career-high 15.3 points from 31.5 mpg. Stay tuned for more NBA Trade Rumors and News.
