The Detroit Pistons have acquired Tobias Harris from Orlando Magic for Brandon Jennings and Ersan Illiyasova, according to sources.
Harris is still in the first season of the four-year, $64 million contract signed this summer. Veteran guard Brandon Jennings was in the trade block for a long time and is making $8.3 million in the final year of his deal with the Pistons, as reported by Real GM.
For Turkish power forward Ilyasova, Magic will have an $8.3 million player option for the 2016-17 season.
According to a tweet from ESPN’s Chris Broussard, Magic has traded off Tobias Harris to the Pistons for Jennings and Ilyasova.
Orlando signed Harris last off-season after he posted 17.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game while shooting a career-best 46.6 percent from the field and 36 percent from long-range. Such a trade is weird from Orlando’s side, both from finance and gaming perspectives, according to Forbes.
Detroit are strange traders as well, since they got rid of $16.7 million and only had $67.3 million in active contracts before this trade. Harris may become Piston’s trump card for the remaining season, but GM Jeff Bower made a multi-year deal on him, hinting that it won’t be a salary dump for them.
