With Russell Westbrook secured, the Oklahoma City Thunder may have further plans to improve the ballclub. The all star guard obviously needs added help which hints that deals could be forthcoming.
Looking at the available talent in NBA free agency, it seems that they got the only sensible one available in Ronnie Price. But will general manager Sam Presti have more moving forward? Right now it would be best to keep the door open.
Similar to the way that they dealt the likes of James Harden, Reggie Jackson, Thabo Sefalosha and Serge Ibaka, the move is expected to be a stunner. But pulling this one out will be complicated.
The players on the Thunder roster like Ersan Ilyasova or Enes Kanter have certain stipulations that could cost OKC. But it will still depend on the player they could get.
Right now, Westbrook has the world on his shoulders and Presti knows he needs to pull out something. They did sign rookie Domantas Sabonis but that is hardly something that could assure the team does good.
There are plenty of names in the market to consider. There is Nerlens Noel and/or Jahlil Okafor of the Philadelphia 76ers or even DeMarcus Cousins of the Sacramento Kings. There are a lot of targets but the Thunder need to figure out what position needs to be filled.
Looking forward to a forward
The glaring hole is obviously the forward position vacated by Kevin Durant. They do have a couple of players who could step up though they are far from the caliber of KD.
The three mentioned players could be perfect though it depends if the Thunder have enough resources to convince the Sixers or the Kings. How about Lance Stephenson?
A minimum deal to sign the temperamental forward could work but the difference he makes is questionable. He did end last season with the Memphis Grizzlies on a high note but can he hum with Westbrook and under Billy Donovan?
