Greg Monroe was considered a rising star last year but the past NBA season was not that kind. In fact his performance was questioned and not long after, NBA rumors swirled like wildfire that the Milwaukee Bucks would trade the 26-year-old player.
It has all been basically about speculation at this point for Monroe. He has been a constant visitor in the NBA rumors mill. But thus far, no team has come close to sealing a deal. While teams could do well by giving the 6-foot-11 another chance, there may be a risk some are not willing to take.
One of those is the fact that Monroe is in the final year of his contract. This means that Monroe will eventually join the plethora of talent seeking lucrative deals next season. Technically, any team who would take the bait will be facing a big risk.
Monroe can be a reliable body that can pick up from the departure of Al Jefferson. While the Hornets acquired Cody Zeller, Roy Hibbert and Spencer Hawes, Monroe offers a tested low post threat that the Hornets could turn to.
New Orleans Pelicans
The New Orleans Pelicans could be a homecoming for Monroe, not to mention a fit. The Pelicans have inquired about him but this can only be possible if the Bucks would consider Omer Asik or Alexis Ajinca in exchange. Other players like Tyreke Evans could be considered but his spate of injuries could be a damper.
San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs did lose big up front with the retirement of Tim Duncan and departure of Boris Diaw. While LaMarcus Aldridge is still the focal point, the Spurs brand of play could work for Monroe.
With Pau Gasol on board, the problem is Monroe could come off the bench and settle for less minutes. Coach Gregg Popovich has been known to work on that in some way but it will depend how the Spurs are able to strike a deal.
