The Los Angeles Lakers will be looking to rebuild this summer to bounce back next season. The Lakers are expected to make some aggressive moves in the free agency and have reportedly targeted DeMar DeRozan of the Toronto Raptors. The franchise is also looking at Kevin Durant.
The two-time All-star, DeMar DeRozan, is in the Lakers’ radar for this summer. Kevin Ding of Bleacher Report points out that the Lakers will be aggressively pursuing DeRozan in the free agency. According to him, The franchise wants DeRozan to follow Kobe Bryant’s footsteps.
“DeMar DeRozan is a very, very likely candidate for the Lakers,” Ding said. “He’s from L.A., he’s gonna be a free agent. He loves Kobe. He grew up idolizing Kobe. So, when you start to look at the options, guys that aren’t afraid to follow in Kobe’s footsteps, DeRozan is not afraid. He would be a great add.” Revealed Ding in a video chat with Madylen Burke.
Kevin Durant is also in the Lakers’ target list. But DeMar DeRozan could be a much more realistic option for the Lakers. The 26-year-old guard has a player option in his contract for 2016-17 season and he may opt out eyeing a long term lucrative contract.
LeBron James, Pau Gasol, Dwight Howard, Chandler Parsons, Dirk Nowitzki and Tim Duncan are also expected to hit the free agency this season. Hassan Whiteside, Al Horford, Rajon Rondo, Nicolas Batum, Al Jefferson, Ryan Anderson, Joakim Noah, Dwyane Wade and Mike Conley feature in the list of unrestricted free agents.
Initially, Masai Ujiri wasn’t interested in retaining DeMar DeRozan in the Raptors roster due to his maximum projected salary, as we’ve reported earlier. But DeRozan’s performance later forced him to change his stance. DeRozan showed interest to extend his stint at Raptors. Will DeRozan return in Toronto this summer or consider lucrative options elsewhere? Well, to know that, we need to wait for few more months.
