“Saturday Night NBA on ABC” is set to kick off on January 23. This will be the first of eight games that will be televised at 8:30 p.m. ET through the end of the season. This program will be a new primetime weekly NBA series. Beginning on Christmas Day, ABC will broadcast 16 exclusive regular-season NBA games in total.
Sunday doubleheaders were previously aired in the network, and now the switch in plans will see one game televised on Saturday night and another on Sunday.
“Through our great partnership with ESPN, we’re thrilled to be able to bring the best in basketball to our prime-time viewers on Saturdays beginning this January while building on our great Sunday afternoon NBA lineup,” Ben Sherwood, President of ABC TV, said on Thursday after the announcement.
ABC and ESPN will now combine to produce four NBA games per week for television viewers, according the latest addition in schedule. ESPN announced the plans Thursday and revealed that their Saturday night pregame show “NBA Countdown” will precede the games at 8 p.m.
ESPN will continue to televise weekly, primetime doubleheaders on Wednesdays and Fridays throughout the regular season at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
Game selections will be made in the coming weeks. ABC’s NBA schedule begins with a Christmas doubleheader.
