“Mr. Robot” season 2 premier leaked online three days before its scheduled release date.
USA Network’s cyber-security thriller “Mr. Robot’s” first episode for season 2 found its way in social media way earlier than its airing date. The first episode was streamed in different times in Twitter, Snapchat, YouTube and USA Network’s website.
“Mr. Robot’s” season 2 first two episodes’ availability was first hinted via a video in Mr. Robot’s Facebook Live event last Sunday.
Then, Twitter released schedules where fans can see the first two episodes, but reminded that it can only be available before its official airing on Wednesday, Los Angeles Times said in a report.
According to Alexandra Shapiro, executive vice president, marketing and digital for USA Network, the management is on board the whole thing.
“The series, at its core, is against conformity and anti-rules. We try to embody this same ethos in our marketing approach,” she said.
The limited availability of “Mr. Robot” Season 2 premiere episodes online was also their way to create excitement among fans of the cyber-security thriller.
Talking about what fans can look forward to in the second season of “Mr. Robot,” creator Sam Esmail said that they are willing to risk after the positive feedback they receive from the first season.
Mr. Robot follows the story of hacker Elliot Alderson, played by Rami Malek, who was associated to fsociety, a group of hackers who was behind the downfall of Evil Corp.
“There were a lot of risks that we took in the first season that did well for us and I think now we have that confidence that we can continue taking risks and not play it safe,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.
“Mr. Robot” season 2 will premiere on USA on July 13 at 10 pm.
