Erin Heatherton, a blonde model of Victoria’s Secret, cancelled her contract with the brand after being asked to reduce weight.
Heatherton was a regular with the popular lingerie brand for five years and walked the ramp in many fashion shows and featured in catalogues, Ny Post pointed. This time, she decided to walk away following a demand to lose weight. This happened back in 2013, but it is just now when she opened up.
The Victoria’s Secret model said in an interview with Time Magazine, “My last two Victoria’s Secret shows, I was told I had to lose weight.” She said she was shocked. “I look back like, ‘Really?’” she said.
Erin said she exercised twice a day in order to reach the optimum weight but could not. She mentioned, “I was really depressed because I was working so hard and I felt like my body was resisting me.”
The model mentioned a time when she looked at her food and thought she should not eat. She finally just gave up the contract and now she decided to accept herself as she is.
The model also took to her Instagram to explain that by losing the lucrative job, she gained more than she lost. Instead of allowing unreasonable demands to dictate her life, she learned to love herself. “I stood in the face of adversity. I was struggling with my body image and the pressures to fulfill the demands of perfectionism upon me. I am not perfect. Through this struggle, however, I found the strength to love myself.”
It was surely a bold decision on part of any Victoria’s Secret model as the brand is too prestigious to leave. However, times are changing and people are starting to embrace the idea of diversity in body shapes and sizes…Victoria’s Secret should probably catch up.
