To those of you who are waiting for some news on “Fast and Furious 8” – without Paul Walker – here are the latest updates from one of the stars, Michelle Rodriguez.
Michelle Rodriguez said in an E! News interview on Harper’s Bazaar Icon Party in New York that the cameras will roll for the franchise in summer of 2016.
“We were looking at New York, and I think the studio was open to that so keep fingers crossed! It’ll be my first movie at home since ‘Girl Fight!'” Rodriguez added. The eighth installment of the franchise will be bittersweet without Paul Walker, but Rodriguez says this is the perfect way to help cope with losing him.
“We need a good reason to move on after Paul,” she explained. “And being that this is a global franchise now, it’s not just the American baby, it’s important that we consider moving on and take it seriously.”
The 37-year-old actress added, “But for us as a cast, I think we need a reason and it needs to have heart, so hopefully we’ll find it, you know? And somebody who’s passionate about directing it—I think that’s the most important thing is finding a good director.”
According to the International Business Times, the star also said that they are thinking of New York as location for the next franchise.
Rodriguez has mentioned in the past interview with People that “the film’s eighth installment will pay tribute to the late actor.” She said Paul Walker “wanted to bring it back down to the core, which is the racing” and “to put an end to exaggerated explosions and crazy plot lines.”
Meanwhile, Yibada reported that “Fast and Furious 8” will have Justin Lin as new director and will add more characters including one more new female in the cast. Names that have been dropped so far are Helen Mirren, Cara Delevingne, and Ruby Rose.
Previous cast members who will be reprising their roles are Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Dwayne Johnson, Kurt Russell, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, and Jason Statham.
“Fast and Furious 8” is scheduled for release on April 2017.
