The crossover film between “Men in Black” and “23 Jump Street” is indeed happening and according to its director, filming was quite “challenging” but “amazing.”
Speaking with The Collider, director James Bobin confirmed that he will be at the helm of the upcoming movie which will be known “MIB 23.” Bobin’s work included the highly successful “Alice Through the Looking Glass.”
“It’s the working title,” the director, who was also behind “The Muppets” and “Muppets Most Wanted” shared with Steven Weintraub when asked to confirm about the film’s title, while adding that production will start “At the end of this year.”
Meanwhile, when it comes to the plot and narrative of the “Men in Black” and “23 Jump Street” crossover, the report dished that it “is still up in the air.”
As to its production team, there have been no details disclosed yet. But, the report claimed that should Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum and Will Smith would be part of the cast, there is no doubt it will score big in the box office.
According to Cinema Blend, the upcoming film would be a “mash-up” of the “buddy cop comedy and sci-fi action into a strange, big new blockbuster.”
Speaking with the entertainment site, Bobin noted that they capture the “right tone” for the crossover considering that they belong to different genre.
“The challenge is a tonal challenge. It really is,” he said. “Because both worlds are so fantastic, and then it’s one of those things where you think, ‘How is this possibly going to work?’ And then you read the script and go, ‘I get it! This is amazing!’”
“It’s fantastic and it’s really fun. In a way I’m trying to imagine neither of those things exist before, and then what would it be together, and that ends with a very interesting place to be,” added about the “Men in Black” and “23 Jump Street” crossover film. “But I love both worlds very much, and Jonah [Hill] and Channing [Tatum] are hilarious, so they’ll be just, you know!”
