Manny Pacquiao is one of the best boxers in history. He is also a senator in the Philippines and a professional basketball player. Yes, the former pound-for-pound king is playing in the Philippine Basketball Association.

In fact, Pacquiao made headlines and was a trending topic on social media on Sunday. What is the reason? The former eight division world champion made a three-pointer a la Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry.

Pacquiao, who is actually a first-round pick in the professional basketball league, entered the match in the second period of the Blackwater vs Mahindra showdown. Pacquiao is also Mahindra’s playing-coach and reportedly owns a stake in the franchise.

With his team up by seven heading into the half, Pacquiao launched a long-distance three-pointer, usually called the “Steph Curry range” in the NBA. His shot hit nothing but net to the delight of his fans inside the arena. Pacquiao’s Mahindra cruised to a 97-88 win to end their two-game skid.

“The players were inspired today especially with coach Manny,” Mahindra assistant coach Chris Gavina told PBA’s official website following their fifth win of the season. “The players are extra motivated.”

Pacquiao also converted a free-throw to finish with four points, which is actually a new career-high for the Philippine senator. Watch the videos below, including a fan-made comparison of Curry and Pacquiao’s shot.

Latest On Pacquiao’s Next Fight

Meanwhile, Pacquiao will make his return to the boxing ring in November after a brief retirement. The former boxing pound-for-pound king will be going up against Jessie Vargas on Nov. 5 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

However, Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum confirmed that they are still looking for pay-per-view distributor after HBO declined to carry the bout. HBO decided to shun the showdown, saying that the fight date is not too appealing, which did not sit well with Arum.

“Who are they to say it’s an awful date? It’s my money,” Arum told Los Angeles Times. “They have no risk on this. I think it’s a good date.”
