A man suspected to have set fire on a Southern California Planned Parenthood Center was arrested by authorities.
Alvaro Perez, 24, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of arson, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s office. The suspect remains in custody. The incident stemmed from a domestic feud, authorities added.
In a press release, Ventura County Sheriff’s Department officials said, “Through various investigative methods and techniques, detectives developed overwhelming evidence that Perez had carried out the arson at Planned Parenthood. Investigators are confident that the criminal acts perpetrated against Planned Parenthood by Perez stemmed from an ongoing domestic feud and at no point fell into the category of extremism.”
According to ABC News, Perez threw a flammable liquid in the facility on September 30. While the fire caused little damage, there was significant water damage caused by the sprinkler. Firefighters responding to the scene of the incident saw a small fire in the lobby, which activated the sprinkler system.
Jenna Tosh, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Santa Barbara, Ventura and San Luis Obispo counties, said the same facility was made target by vandals in August. “It’s always very disappointing whenever you hear that something like this has happened,” Tosh had said.
