Mali Hotel Hostage: A luxury hotel was attacked by gunmen, shouting Islamic slogans, in Mali. Around 170 people are being held hostage as of this moment.
Radisson Blu hotel was attacked by Bamako gunmen, reported Reuters, just one week after the Paris attacks that plagued France and killed 129 people and injured more.
According to CNN, the assailants entered the hotel riding a diplomatic vehicle. They fired AK-47 rifles immediately after entering the hotel and held 140 clients and 30 employees hostage.
There were reports of the attackers shouting Islamic slogans.
The hotel was at 90% occupancy when the gunman attacked. A mining conference has just concluded there, according to Telegraph.
U.N. and Malian solders stormed into the hotel and freed all the remaining hostages, but the hostage-takers were still inside the hotel, hours after the attack.
“Bamako” is the capital of Mali. It is also Mali’s largest city.
