Lenovo Unveils a New Thinkpad Helix Convertible Laptop

Lenovo Unveils a New Thinkpad Helix Convertible LaptopLenovo has announced, at the IFA expo in Berlin, the next generation of the company’s 2-in-1 business multimode Ultrabook.

The new Thinkpad Helix is now thinner and lighter; measuring only 0.38 inches thin and weighing only 2.98 pounds. It also comes with improved hardware including the latest Intel Core M or Core M vPro processor and a new sleek aluminum finish. Like the original Helix, the new one still retains the device’s five modes – Tablet, Stand, Tent, Laptop, and Desktop – as well as the included digitizer pen. All new Thinkpad Helix models also feature an 11.6-inch Full HD 400-nit 10-finger touch IPS screen with a display resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels that’s powered by Intel 4000 HD graphics technology.

Other specifications include options for 4GB or 8GB of DDR3 1600MHz memory, an array of storage solutions including single and multiple drive options, either 3G or 4G/LTE connectivity, WiFi 802.11ac or 802.11n, and more. The Thinkpad Helix also comes with a slew of security features for both personal and business users including hardware TPM, a fingerprint reader, and SmartCard support.

Lenovo is also making a slew of accessories for the Thinkpad Helix available including the ThinkPad QuickShot Cover for quick photography, ThinkPad Tablet Dock, ThinkPad Protector Case, Thinkpad Pen, and a  Charging Tray as well as the already included ThinkPad UltraBook Keyboard or ThinkPad UltraBook Pro Keyboard.

“The computing landscape is rapidly evolving as more users transition to multi-functional devices supporting end user consumption and creation needs at home and in the workplace,” said Kirk Skaugen, senior vice president and general manager, PC Client Group, Intel Corporation.   “The Intel® Core™ M processor was engineered to enable the optimal balance of performance and battery life in commercial devices like the ThinkPad Helix.”

The new Thinkpad Helix will be available through Lenovo’s online store and worldwide business partners starting in October with models starting at $999 which includes the Ultrabook keyboard.
