In a bizarre turn of events, LAPD cops on Tuesday evening were alerted after several calls were made saying an armed man was waiting for his ex-girlfriend in a Westwood apartment building close to the UCLA campus.
According to CBS Local, authorities established that the man’s ex-girlfriend reached home at 4 p.m. only to find him inside her apartment displaying a firearm. According to LAPD spokesman Matthew Ludwig, the armed man was not alone and was in the company of another man.
Reports suggest that LAPD is in touch with the dangerous man. “At this stage, we are not calling it a hostage situation,” said Ludwig. According to Officer Mike Lopez, it is unclear whether the second man in the apartment is an acquaintance or a hostage being held against his will.
Later, a SWAT team entered the apartment, located on the 1000 block of Tiverton Avenue, but did not find the armed man. The assigned cops also searched the entire building with K-9s.
Ludwig said that authorities were still trying to determine whether the man left the apartment before the officers arrived or went into hiding. One way or another, authorities have blocked off the entrance to the building and are determined to ensure the safety of the targeted woman.
