Power forward Karl-Anthony Towns worked out privately for the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Ramona Shelburne of Sportscenter. The Lakers publicized the workout of the other prospects, but kept Towns’ episode concealed. The Minnesota Timberwolves reportedly deciding to pick Towns at No. 1 ahead of the Lakers at No. 2 is the prime reason for maintaining such secrecy.
This is contrary to the earlier reports that the Lakers were “increasingly doubtful” they could get Towns to train for them. It was reported that Towns refused to work out in private for any team in the pre-draft process. But the fact that both sides kept Towns’ workout secret until now is intriguing even if it is unlikely to matter. Did Lakers make special arrangements to keep things secret? As draft rumors went crazy this season, anything would have been impossible.
