The Los Angeles Lakers are on the hunt for big names in the free agency market. But none of the star free agents has confirmed to join the franchise yet. With options getting thinner, the Lakers are eying to recruit point-guard Rajon Rondo and have given him a call, according to ESPN. Lakers are set basically in one and only one position – point guard.
Rondo is one of the few star free agents who is yet to strike a deal. The only team that has met Rondo so far is the Sacramento Kings. Though the Lakers are not interested in signing him as of now, the “call” could mean a change of mindset and recruitment policy. Earlier it was reported that the Lakers aren’t interested in Rondo after drafting point-guard D’Angelo Russell with the second overall pick.
Rondo, on the other hand, is keen on a short-term contract that would make him a free agent once more next summer, when the salary caps are expected to rise. Rondo’s aspiration converges with Lakers’ interest, as the franchise would want to keep free cap space next summer.
With the team’s off-season not working according to plans, the management is pondering over alternate ideas like calling Rondo to improve their roster.
