Excel Sports Management has severed its ties with Los Angeles Lakers’ guard Jordan Clarkson, a person close to the deal told Associated Press. Neither side has revealed the details of the split, which took place last month. The person revealed the information on the condition of anonymity.
Clarkson was named to the All-Rookie First Team after a stellar rookie season during which he averaged 11.9 points and 3.5 assists. The Lakers picked Clarkson in the second round of the 2014 draft.
The Excel Sports Management group represents some of the biggest names of NBA. The list includes Blake Griffin, forward of the Los Angeles Clippers, Kevin Love of Cleveland Cavaliers and Paul Pierce, another forward with the Clippers.
Clarkson eager to represent Philippines
Earlier, the rising star of Los Angeles Lakers, Jordan Clarkson revealed that he wants to represent the Philippine National Team, despite citizenship problems for International Basketball Association (FIBA).
“I want to assure my Filipino brothers and sisters that, if given the chance and everything can be worked out, I sincerely wish to play for Gilas and contribute to the total team effort for flag and country,” Clarkson said in a statement released by the Basketball Association of the Philippines (SBP).
23-year-old Clarkson’s mother hails from the Philippines. He has gone to the basketball-crazy Southeast Asian nation and joined the national team, Gilas Pilipinas, for practice.
The Philippine association’s executive director Sonny Barrios said that he was hopeful that they could clear all the requirements of the FIBA to enable Clarkson to feature for Gilas in the Asian qualifiers of the Rio Olympics.
