After Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling sparked romance in “Crazy, Stupid, Love,” the duo is set return with the upcoming “La La Land.” The plot revolves around two aspiring entertainers, an aspiring actress for Stone and a jazz musician for Gosling, whose relationship turns complicated because of modern-day Los Angeles’ entertainment industry.
La La Land, a contemporary yet old-fashioned musical directed by Whiplash’s Damien Chazelle, will soon hit theaters next year. The said movie will feature Stone and Gosling, whose chemistry is undeniably entertaining.
Set in modern-day Los Angeles, a teaser was released showing Ginger Rogers (Stone) and Fred Astaire (Gosling) styled as inspired by Hollywood’s Golden Age. When asked about the setting, Chazelle mentioned, “There’s an incredible romanticism in L.A. that you don’t always see when you’re stuck in traffic on the 405.”
When asked why Chazelle pushed through with La La Land, he stated, “I’d like to make a contemporary musical about L.A. starting with the L.A. we know but slowly building to a vision of the city as romantic metropolis – one that is actually worthy of the dreams it inspires. I’d like to make a musical about the way L.A.’s peculiar rhythms can push its residents to the edge of their emotions – be they hope, desperation or love.”
He added, “Think the kind of teetering-toward-madness you see in ‘The Graduate’ or ‘Boogie Nights’, and imagine if you were to push that further. In this case, the city pushes its residents all the way: it pushes them into song,” as reported by Slash Film.
In other news, Entertainment Weekly reported that the director used “Isn’t This A Lovely Day (To Be Caught In the Rain,” the famous song from 1935’s “Top Hat” as the movie’s reference point.
Catch La La Land arrive in theaters this July 15, 2016. Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, Finn Wittrock, J.K. Simmons, John Legend, and Rosemarie DeWitt are part of the cast. The movie is directed by “Whiplash” director Damien Chazelle.
