Kevin Durant’s Mom In The Dark About Free Agency Plans

Kevin Durant, embroiled in a first round playoff series against the Dallas Mavericks, hasn’t informed his mother or the rest of inner circle of his free agency plans, contrary to earlier reports.

At exactly 12:01 a.m. ET on July 1, teams can begin meeting with Durant – the most coveted free agent since LeBron James in 2010. As of this writing, Durant hasn’t dropped any hints about his future plans, with his primary focus on the ongoing playoffs and possibly guiding Oklahoma City Thunder to the NBA title. If Thunder win it all, expect Durant to stay put. If not, all bets are off.

Wanda Pratt, Durant’s mom, stopped by NBC4’s headquarters on Tuesday for a Facebook Live interview. “I don’t know what his ultimate decision will be. They’re (Thunder) 1-1 (in the series against Mavs). He really focuses on his task at hand. He’s very loyal to the Thunder so he felt it would be unjust to focus on other things while playing in the playoffs,” Pratt said of her superstar son.

Kevin Durant to delay decision?

According to Pratt, Durant’s decision could be decided by someone else. There was a theory floated earlier this year that Durant could sign a 1-year extension with Thunder just so he could enter free agency again next season with teammate and good friend Russell Westbrook, besides taking advantage of the rising NBA salary cap in 2017.

“Where he’s going to end playing has still not been decided by him,” Pratt explained. “He’s still playing in the playoffs as everyone knows. I don’t know (his plans) so don’t say Mama Durant said (he’s coming to Washington) because I didn’t say that. He’s focused on the playoffs right now and he’s pretty loyal to the Thunder with regards to that. When the time comes, he’ll make a decision best for him.”

Kevin Durant will turn 28 this September. “I tell the teenage moms I was you almost 28 years ago. I didn’t foresee all of this for my family or myself. There were times I wanted to quit, I wanted to check out on life. I encourage them to continue because you never what the future holds.”

For now, the speculation about Kevin Durant will just continue. Anyone who claims to know the superstar’s thought-process is just flat out doing so for television ratings or website clicks.
