Didier Deschamps has confirmed that superstar striker Karim Benzema has sustained a hamstring injury during France’s 4-0 victory over Armenia on Thursday night in a friendly encounter.
The Real Madrid star hobbled off the pitch in the 80th minute of the game. But after he did his job. It was Benzema’s brace in the final quarter that sealed France’s victory.
“Benzema has felt some great discomfort behind the thigh, that’s why we take him off straight away,” Deschamps told reporters. “I hope that it is nothing serious but we don’t know yet.”
Antoine Griezmann drew first blood for the Les Blues in the first half. After the breather, midfielder Yohan Cabay doubled their lead before Benzema displayed his magic. Benzema scored his first goal from a header of Greizmann’s corner and rounded off things with a low shot finding the target from substitute Anthony Martial’s assist.
Benzema was finally substituted by Oliver Giroud, two minutes after he netted his second goal. The Real Madrid hitman was seen limping off the ground, holding his thigh.
