Following the accident that took the life of Miami Marlins superstar Jose Fernandez, many might have gotten curious by now about the woman he loved.
On Sunday, the world of baseball was shocked when it was reported that the then 24-year-old pitcher died while boating in Miami Beach.
While it was truly a sad day for them, the grief may have gotten worse upon learning that the girlfriend he left is pregnant with their first child.
Who is Carla Mendoza, the woman he adored until the last day of his life? What was their relationship like?
Based on what have been gathered by Hollywood Life, there are five things that might interest Jose Fernandez’s fans about his girlfriend.
First, the professional baseball player enjoyed a quiet and private romance with her. It was noted that it was only five days before he died that he became vocal of his admiration for her.
Second, he and Carla Mendoza could be together for a year already, more or less. Considering that they were a private couple, it was only during the Major League Baseball (MLB) in September 2015 wherein she hugged and kissed him after he was declared the first pitcher to have recorded 17 home starts in the entire MLB history.
Upon observing such scene, many concluded that Carla Mendoza is indeed the girlfriend of Jose Fernandez.
Third, they would have started a family already. Amid his declaration that he was already prepared to start a family with her, that commitment has no way happening.
Fourth, both of them were stunner.
Fifth, an Instagram account with the handle @carlamendoza_16, which is believed to be her real account, Jose Fernandez’s girlfriend referred him as her husband. It is still being validated, though, if it was really her who posted it.
In a separate report, Hollywood Life shared that the late pitcher was extra sweet in his Instagram message for his ladylove.
“I’m so glad you came into my life. I’m ready for where this journey is gonna take us together. #familyfirst,” Jose Fernandez captioned a snap of his girlfriend with her baby bump while enjoying the beach.
