Miami Marlins ace Jose Fernandez was killed in a boating accident in Florida early Sunday morning.
The Cuban-American baseball pitcher died along with his two friends while aboard their vessel which was found upside down at 3am in Miami Beach.
According to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Spokesman Lorenzo Veloz, speed may have been a factor on the accident, saying that the three looked like they were coming at a full speed.
He added that neither of the three was wearing a life vest when they were found, the Hollywood Life said in a report.
Upon the news that Jose Fernandez is dead following the fatal boat accident, Miami Marlins decided to postpone their game against Atlanta Braves.
The Miami Marlins has also released their official statements on Jose Fernandez’s death, CNN said.
“The Miami Marlins organization is devastated by the tragic loss of Jose Fernandez,” the statement said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very difficult time.”
Meanwhile, before Jose Fernandez’s demise, he posted a sweet message to his pregnant girlfriend Carla Mendoza on Instagram.
Posting a black-and-white photo of his girlfriend who is wearing a two-piece bikini while showing off her baby bump, the athlete captioned the snap with, “I’m so glad you came into my life. I’m ready for where this journey is gonna take us together. #familyfirst.”
Josee Fernandez’ girlfriend Carla Mendoza has yet to release her statement on her boyfriend’s tragic death.
