He got the necessary nod from the Los Angeles Lakers. But Gilas Pilipinas couldn’t secure the necessary clearance in time for Jordan Clarkson. So Clarkson will have to wait for another season. The Philippine Basketball Association announced the news in a press release on Tuesday.
The Lakers star wanted to play for the Philippines in the coming FIBA Asia play. Gilas Pilipinas will first play on September 23, but the competition shall extend till October.
John Black, the Lakers’ public relation manager, issued a statement earlier revealing that the franchise has no issue with Clarkson’s ambition of featuring for the Southeast Asian nation as long he returns to Los Angeles by September 28, when the team heads to Hawaii for the preseason training camp where Clarkson’s presence is mandatory.
The prime issue regarding the Asian tournament is that its start clashes with the NBA. The Philippine Basketball Association plans to raise and clear this issue with the game’s international parent body.
Clarkson won’t be featuring for his country this summer, but he still has plans to play for the Gilas Pilipinas in the near future. He plans to help the Southeast Asian nation in its preparation for the next three editions of the Olympics.
Surely, the Lakers’ star would get plenty of opportunity to help his country in the future years.
