Jon Bernthal is all set to wear black, not to mention a drab facial expression, as soon as he begins to step into the role of The Punisher for the next season of “Marvel’s Daredevil,” which shows exclusively on Netflix.
The ex-“Walking Dead” star will portray one of Marvel’s most well-known characters – a vigilante who ruthlessly achieves justice no matter how gruesome the outcome would be.
Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television, said, “Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences.”
Also, according to him, Frank Castle’s presence in Hell’s Kitchen will bring significant changes in the life of Matt Murdock, portrayed by Charlie Cox.
Previous incarnations of The Punisher proved to be lackluster among audiences. The character has been recently portrayed by two actors in two separate movies, Thomas Jane (2004) and Ray Stevenson (2008), both instances did not sell well.
Marvel will have to see if a television version of Frank Castle will get people’s attentions.
The first season of “Marvel’s Daredevil” is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
