Johnny Depp’s legal team is all set to grill the actor’s estranged wife Amber Heard on Aug.6. The “Pirates Of The Caribbean” actor’s attorneys were in court for an emergency hearing to persuade a judge to schedule a date for the actress’ deposition on Tuesday.
The 53-year-old actor has wanted his legal team to grill his estranged wife since she won a temporary restraining order against him in May.
The judge ruled that the “Magic Mike XXL” actress must make herself available to answer questions from the actor’s lawyers on Saturday, according to TMZ. Meanwhile, the 30-year-old Amber Heard’s legal team filed documents claiming that Depp and his team are attempting to stall their divorce proceedings. They also said the Johnny Depp is “smearing [Heard] at every turn.”
Amber, who is filming “Justice League” in the U.K., had previously said she could only be available to fly back to LA to be deposed on a weekend. Depp wanted to challenge Amber Heard’s version as early as possible, and get a solution to the restraining order, as it is likely to harm him professionally as well as financially, Daily Mail reports.
Captain Sparrow’s attorneys have called the actress’s claims of his violent behavior and domestic violence as “meritless.” The former couple split in May, after 15 months of marriage. They had met on the set of “The Rum Diary” in 2011. Depp and Heard are now embroiled in the bitter legal battle.
Depp and his legal team have asked for a fine of $100,000 to be imposed every time the actor’s financial information is leaked, in a document submitted last week in court. However, Heard has stated the amount to be “ridiculous.” The former couple did not have a pre-nuptial agreement before their marriage.
Johnny Depp also wants other information that will be part of the proceedings such as witness statements to remain private too, People reports.
