When Jimmy Carter revealed that he is finally cancer-free, one can only muse two things: Thank God or Thank God for Science. And although this revelation from the former president is not exactly a pronouncement of miracle from his part, believers can easily grasp the idea that his faith holds the key to his healing.
On Sunday, Jimmy Carter revealed that he is cancer-free. In his statement, he said, “My most recent MRI brain scan did not reveal any signs of the original cancer spots nor any new ones. I will continue to receive regular three-week immunotherapy treatments of pembrolizumab.”
The man, whose life is dedicated to teaching in a Bible school, building homes for the homeless and a thunderous voice for the Baptist believers, has suffered from “Metastatic melanoma”, a serious life-threatening illness that can cause death to its victims.
Dr. Leonard Lichtenfeld, who has been following Jimmy Carter’s journey, commented on CNN, “Right from very beginning, I had a good feeling about the President’s prognosis. First, they were able to get control of the visible lesions. There weren’t many lesions scattered all over the body, and they were able to treat the lesions they had with radiation and surgery. That puts the President into a better prognostic category than many other patients who have metastatic melanoma.”
Dr. Lichtenfeld further said that the President’s outcome may be better than it would be for other patients with the same illness.
So is this a miracle from God whom he serves? Maybe. It can be a reward for all those hard work he was doing, despite whatever he was experiencing in return.
But whether this healing moment is attributed to the wonders of Science or the miracles of God, is up for everyone to decide.
President Carter is dedicated to his Bible school teaching every week. He has also published a book entitled “NIV Lessons from Life Bible: Personal Reflections with Jimmy Carter.”
