Alum Jessica Sanchez showed that she still has what it takes by belting out “The Prayer” on the season 15 finale of “American Idol.” She may have only won as runner-up on her season, but she made sure everyone remembered why she’s an idol in the first place.
According to Just Jared, Sanchez looked amazing in her sparkling dress at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. Before her performance, the young singer announced on Twitter her excitement to be part of the finale episode.
Before this big night, she was interviewed by Latina Magazine and dished about her excitement to be part of the show’s finale episode and her life after she won runner up on Season 11.
“I’m really excited because it’s the last season. I feel like they are going to go out with a bang. They’ve been bringing back a bunch of former idols. It’s kind of like a family reunion. I get to see all my friends again, which is really awesome. I’m excited for the show to see all the talent and see what they have planned for me,” she said.
She added that she is excited to see the staff of the show, who quickly became her family.
“I’m really excited to see all the staff. When I was in that experience, it was kind of like an American Idol bubble. They were the only people that I knew so they became my family for like a year,” she shared.
“I’m excited to see all of them. I’m super excited to see J.Lo again and see the new contestants and the former Idols. I’m super excited to see everybody actually. It’s kind of like my second home,” she added.
In the same interview, she shared how the show transformed her life.
“After Idol, we went on Idol tour and I had amazing opportunities like going on Glee and on Dancing with the Stars. I sang for the president a couple of times. I’m still thinking about it. It amazes me. I have a picture with Obama in my house and I freak out every time I see it. I’m like ‘What the heck? Did that even happen?’ It’s like a dream,” she detailed.
She revealed that people have not forgotten her from the show. “It’s been amazing and that happened four or five years ago when I was on Idol. I still get people that come up to me like ‘Oh my god, you’re Jessica from Idol.’ and I’m like ‘Oh my god, you remember me?! That’s such a long time ago.’ But it’s pretty amazing how big of a platform American Idol is,” she gushed.
