IKEA recently announced that it will soon be opening an expansive new store in Jacksonville at the corner of Gate Parkway and Interstate 295. Moreover, residents in the area can expect to be shopping in IKEA’s new US location by fall 2017.
The announcement was made at the JAX Chamber on Wednesday morning. In attendance were IKEA representatives along with Mayor Lenny Curry and JAX Chamber President Daniel Davis. According to First Coast News, IKEA U.S. President Lars Petersson has said that the opening of the Jacksonville store location represents an opportunity for the brand to reach out to as much as 110,000 Jacksonville area customers while also becoming more readily accessible to those living in North Florida, Southern Georgia and other neighboring areas.
The soon-to-rise store covers about 25 acres of land. And when it opens, people will be able to enjoy shopping in a 294,000 square foot retail space that also comes with as much as 1,200 parking spaces. In addition, the IKEA Jacksonvile location will also feature a supervised children’s play area and a restaurant with 350 seats. Moreover, IKEA shall also be offering some 10,000 exclusively designed items in its upcoming store. As of the moment, IKEA already operates four stores throughout Florida. These are in Orlando, Tampa, Sunrise and Sweetwater.
During the construction of the Jacksonville store, IKEA says it plans to offer more than 500 jobs. Meanwhile, the Swedish retail giant is also looking to hire some 250 employees once the store opens.
